This Vehicle Inspection Services Privacy Policy (this "Policy") tells you about how we use and protect your personal information.

1.         Scope.  This Policy describes how we handle your personal information for our products and services available through the Vehicle Inspection Services (referred to herein as "we," "us" or "our") website www.dsfs.com (the "Site"). By accepting the Policy and the Terms and Conditions in connection with your use of the Site or your purchase of our products or services, you expressly consent to our collection, storage, use and disclosure of your personal information as described in this Policy. This Policy is effective upon acceptance for new users and is otherwise effective on August 31, 2006.

2.         Collection.  You can browse the Site without telling us who you are or revealing any personal information about yourself. Once you give us your personal information, however, you are not anonymous to us. If you choose to provide us with personal information, you consent to the transfer and storage of that information to our servers located in the United States.  We may collect and store the following personal information:

  • email address, physical contact information, and vehicle information (including information regarding the party in possession of the vehicle); 
  • transactional information based on your activities on the Site;
  • shipping, billing and other information you provide to purchase a vehicle condition report;
  • correspondence through the Site, and correspondence sent to us; and
  • computer sign-on data, statistics on page views, traffic to and from the Site, and other information, including IP address and standard web log information.
The results of your Vehicle Inspection Report and the related Vehicle Condition Report do not constitute "personal information" for purposes of this Policy or the Terms and Conditions.  We do not receive any of your personal payment information; you give that to PayPal ® and are approved for payment by PayPal ® before we receive your order. 3.         Use.  Our primary purpose in collecting personal information is to enable us to provide you with our products and services. You agree that we may use your personal information to:

  • process your Vehicle Inspection Order;
  • send you reminders, and alert you regarding DFS products, services or promotions that DFS believes may be of interest to you;
  • resolve disputes, collect fees, and troubleshoot problems;
  • enforce our Terms and Conditions and this Privacy Policy; and
  • customize, measure, and improve our products and services and the Site's content and layout.

4.         Links to Other Sites.  The Site may contain links to third party sites at which personal information is collected and used. Your visit to any third party website is governed by the terms and conditions and privacy policy applicable to that website. DFS cannot control nor is it responsible for any such website's collection or use of your personal information.

5.         Our Disclosure of Your Personal Information.  We may disclose your personal information to respond to legal requirements, enforce our policies, or protect anyone's rights, property, or safety.  We may also share your personal information with:

  • inspection service providers under contract who perform vehicle inspections;
  • other third parties to whom you explicitly ask us to send your information;
  • law enforcement or other governmental officials, in response to a verified request relating to a criminal investigation or alleged illegal activity; and
  • another business entity, should we plan to merge with, or be acquired by that business entity (should such a combination occur, we will require that the new combined entity follow this privacy policy with respect to your personal information. If your personal information will be used contrary to this policy, you will receive prior notice).

 6.         Our Disclosure of Non-Personal Information to Third Parties.  Any information contained in your Vehicle Condition Report that does not constitute personal information about you is our property, and we may sell, rent or otherwise share that information to or with third parties.  By way of example, we may accumulate and sell, rent, share or otherwise disclose information about vehicles we have inspected. 

7.         CookiesWe use "cookies" (a small, unique text file that a website can send to your computer hard drive when you visit that site) on certain pages of the Site to help analyze our web page flow, customize our services, measure promotional effectiveness, and promote trust and safety.  A few important things you should know about cookies are that:

  • We offer certain features that are only available through the use of cookies.
  • We use cookies to help identify you and maintain your signed-in status.
  • Most cookies are "session cookies," meaning that they are automatically deleted from your hard drive at the end of a session.
  • You are always free to decline our cookies if your browser permits, although doing so may interfere with your use of the Site.

We do not make any cookie information available to third parties.  Most web browsers can either alert you to the use of cookies or refuse to accept cookies entirely. If you do not want us to deploy cookies in your browser, you can set your browser to reject cookies or to notify you when the Site tries to put a cookie on your computer. Rejecting cookies may affect your ability to use of some of the products and/or services at the Site.  In the future, we may also use other similar technologies on the Site for the same purpose or for similar purposes. 8.         Account Protection.  Your password is the key to your account. Use unique numbers, letters, and special characters and do not disclose your password to anyone. If you do share your password or your personal information with others, remember that you are responsible for all actions taken in the name of your account. If you lose control of your password, you may lose substantial control over your personal information and may be subject to legally binding actions taken on your behalf. Therefore, if your password has been compromised for any reason, you should immediately notify us and change your password.

10.        Security.  We use commercially reasonable efforts to ensure that any information you give to us is stored and maintained in a secure environment.  However, as you probably know, third parties may unlawfully intercept or access transmissions or private communications. Therefore, we do not promise, and you should not expect, that your personal information or private communications will always remain private and do not make any warranties or representations regarding the confidentiality of any information you transmit while it is being transmitted.

11.        Amendments to this Privacy Policy.  We may amend this Policy at any time by posting the amended terms on the Site. All amended terms automatically take effect when they are initially posted on the Site.
